Dating sites for over 60s

Join free

Dating sites for over 60s let you meet single people of a similar age who want companionship or a relationship, without the speed and noise of mainstream apps. Mature Dating Online is a UK site for singles aged 45 and over, where people in their sixties can read full profiles and talk at their own pace. Joining is free.

Dating over 60: what’s different now

Your sixties can be one of the most open stretches of adult life. Work is winding down or already finished, children have homes of their own, and for the first time in decades the diary has room in it. For many people it’s also when they come back to dating, after a long marriage has ended or a partner has died.

People do find each other again at this age. The Office for National Statistics found that the number of brides and grooms aged 65 and over rose by 46% in the ten years to 2014, from 7,468 to 10,937. Of those, 92% had been divorced or widowed (ONS, 2017). Plenty of other couples meet later in life and choose not to marry at all.

Going online to do it is no longer unusual either. Three in four internet users aged 65 and over use social media (Ofcom, 2025). A dating site works in much the same way: a profile, some messages and, when it feels right, a meeting. Many people combine it with groups such as the U3A, walking clubs or volunteering, which are good ways to meet people whether or not romance comes of it.

What to look for in a dating site for over 60s

Searches for the best dating sites for over 60 bring up plenty of lists, but the right site depends on what you want from it. These are the questions worth asking of any site, this one included:

  • Is it built for your age group? A site for over 45s or over 50s means you’ll see singles over 60 alongside people a little younger, rather than profiles of people half your age.
  • Is it clear about what’s free? You should be able to find out what you can do without paying before you hand over any card details.
  • Can members prove who they are? Look for some form of profile verification, and a simple way to report anyone who makes you uneasy.
  • Is it easy to use? Large text, clear buttons and a design that works on a tablet or phone make a real difference.
  • Does it protect your privacy? Your surname, email and address should never be on show.

Are there free dating sites for over 60s?

Most dating websites for over 60s are free to join and charge for some features, usually messaging. A few are free throughout, but every site has to pay for itself somehow, and it’s worth asking how one that charges nothing pays for checking profiles and dealing with reports.

On Mature Dating Online you can create a profile, browse members, get daily match suggestions and verify your profile without paying. Messaging is limited on the free membership, and upgrading removes the limit. We won’t pretend it’s completely free, because it isn’t.

Money, homes and family if it gets serious

Romance in your sixties often comes with a house, savings, a pension and grown-up children who will one day inherit. None of that is a reason not to date, but it’s worth knowing a few things before you move in together or marry.

  • In England, if an unmarried partner dies without a will, the survivor doesn’t automatically inherit anything unless they owned property jointly. So-called common-law marriage gives no special rights (Citizens Advice).
  • In England and Wales, getting married cancels any will you made before (GOV.UK), so a new will is needed if you want to provide for children from an earlier marriage.
  • Some couples choose to keep their own homes and finances, sometimes called living apart together, and see each other as often as they like.

A solicitor can explain how this applies to your circumstances. The point is simply that a little planning lets you enjoy a new relationship without worrying about it.

Tips for dating at 60 and over

  1. Use a photo taken this year. It sets the right expectations and starts things honestly.
  2. Mention what fills your week. Grandchildren, the allotment, a choir, a part-time job: these give people something to ask about.
  3. Be open about your age range. Someone five years older or younger may share more with you than you’d expect.
  4. Try a video call before meeting. If you’re not used to them, a short call with a friend first takes the strangeness out of it.
  5. Make the first meeting easy to leave. Coffee, a garden visit or a walk in daylight works better than a long dinner.
  6. Tell someone where you’re going. A friend or one of your children, with a quick message afterwards.
  7. Keep your finances to yourself. Questions about your pension, savings or property from someone you haven’t met are a warning sign, however natural they seem.

Staying safe

People aged 55 to 74 account for nearly half of the money lost to romance fraud in the UK (Report Fraud, May 2026). The pattern is usually the same: strong feelings declared quickly, reasons not to video call or meet, then an emergency that needs money. If anyone you haven’t met asks for money, stop and talk to someone you trust. Our online dating safety advice explains the warning signs and what to do if something goes wrong.
